GangBangNation.com - A detailed look Inside East Coast Gang Culture

The capital of east coast gang banging is New York City, New York. Unlike other regions, east coast gang banging culture is not largely segregated by race and is not solely based on gang controlled turfs or decks. Instead, the vast majority of east coast gangs operate as nomadic groups of "urban warrior tribes" divided into small "sub-tribes" scattered around mutliple neighborhoods, cities and states. These sub-tribes are known to take over the drug and gun trafficking in tenament buildings or certain buildings inside of apartment complexes and public housing projects. They are also known to take over lucrative drug strips, houses, etc. For example: there is a known NYC gang (tribe) called the YGz (Young Gunnerz). You can't just claim YGz as your gang/tribe, you have to be part of a sub-tribe or start your own sub-tribe (which anyone is free to do) in order to be part of the YGz tribe. So for instance, some YG sub-tibes include: RPT YGz (which controls the River Park Towers in the Bronx), Jookz Ave YGz, etc. Most east coast gangs are racially diverse, although there is a very small amount of latin based and afro-centric based gangs/tribe. Also, east coast gangs/tribe all operate independently from each other with no known official east coast gang alliances. Each east coast gang or "warrior tribe" identifies themselves with unique color codes and elegantly patterned beaded necklaces & braceletes. Being that the east coast is a melting pot of relatives from all other regions, many gangs from other regions have spread to the east coast and incorporated foreign alliances such as the Bloods, Crips, People and Folk. Although many outside gangs have spread to the east, they have taken to adopting the east coast multi-racial nomadic urban "warrior tribe" way of banging upon arrival in order to survive there. For example, the Grape Street Crips in New Jersey (an east coast state with an above average amount of west coast gang activity): they are officlally part of the 103rd Watts Baby Locs clicc of the Grape Street Crips from California, but when they operate on the east coast (NJ) they operate as a single Tribe broken down into sub-tribes operating throughout the whole NJ state, for example: Georgia King Village Grape, Collonnades Grape, etc.

East Coast gangs/tribes have developed a way of not having any leaders. There is only a founder or founders which are the people or person who founded the Tribe and or Sub-tribe. Founders do not control the gang, tribe or subtribe; they are just respected as the founder(s). Decisions by the tribe/sub-tribe are made on a majority rules basis, as opposed to taking orders from a superior or big homie. Once a gang joins/creates a tribe or sub-tribe, they can not change tribes. Changing tribes leads to an "amber alert" among the entire tribe in which you will be killed on sight. East Coast tribes have recently began a campaign (especially in NYC) where they are waging war against any gang or tribe that is not originally from the east coast, only accepting foreign alliances if the gangs under those alliances claim an east coast hood and not a foreign hood. East coast independent gangs are known to give ultimatums to all foreign gangs telling them to either become part of or create a domestic tribe/hood or declare war. This has drastically changed the gang scene in NYC and the whole east coast with many foreign Blood and Crip sets abandoning their California roots and representing their east coast hood or tribe only. The Gangster Disciples, Black Stones, Vice Lords and Latin Kings in the east always represented their east coast hood first, leaving them to be accepted by the independent east coast gangs as home grown. In 2005 majority of gangs in NYC streets were foreign influenced, in 2012 majority were domestic. In NYC the presssure was so great that entire west coast Blood and Crip sets have dropped the Blood and Crip title and joined or started their own tribe, with the few remaining loyal west coast influnced Bloods and Crips being regular victims of gun violence as the shooting incidents increase in the city by the original NYC gangs and the NYC based Blood, Crip, People and Folks sets/mobs against all gangs claiming foreign turf in New York City and the East Coast. These incidences are most notable in uptown neighbrohoods like the Bronx and Harlem and in Brownsville and East New York in Brooklyn where domestic gangs are completely whiping out foreign influences. These domestic tribes and home grown gangs are known to go by a strict code called the "G Code".

Many east coast gang members can be found on TheHoodUp.com, which is a notorious virtual gathering-place for many other gangs as well. The reason many east coast and gang members from other regions choose to communicate with each other on TheHoodUp.com over other sites is because of the ability to remain completely anonymous if you want and avoid being tracked by the "internet-police" while being able to communicate with other gang members from around the world. TheHoodUp.com is also known to be frequented by local, state, and federal law enforcement so extra cautious members of the site have even created a unique method of communicating with each other called "starring", where they replace multiple letters in a word, often times already a code word for that particular set, with an asterisk(*) and only those who can fill in the blanks will know who or what they're talking about..
